On the Bee Culture cover for this month’s July 250th Anniversary of America, we wanted to highlight Brad Root, the President of The A.I. Root Company and 5th generation Root. It all began in 1865 with A.I Root and a swarm of honey bees. We have been here with you for a long time. It has been great.
From that first swarm, A.I. Root began to build the beekeeping supply industry’s most successful manufacturer and distributor of beekeeping equipment in the country.
In 1873 A.I. Root started the magazine Novice’s Gleanings in Bee Culture to connect, tie and provide information from reputable sources about how to be the best beekeeper you could be and have fun doing it.
Novice’s Gleanings in Bee Culture became Gleanings in Bee Culture, and in 1992 was changed simply to Bee Culture. The A.I. Root Company has been continuously publishing Bee Culture for over 150 years. Pretty amazing.
As the cover on Bee Culture states every month it is “The Magazine of American Beekeeping”. And all subscribers and readers would agree. And we, with you, keep going strong by working together. We are a beekeeping family.
As we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States I want to share with you a quote from A.I. Root in his book An Eyewitness Account of Early American Beekeeping, from the last Chapter For Whom Are You Working?
“Are you working with might and main that the United States of America may stand before the world with unsullied reputation? Are you working with might and main to see the American flag that is now floating over your home safely handed down to the children yet unborn, a stainless flag, with its stars and stripes clean and pure before the great wide world?” – A. I. Root
Happy 250th to you all!
